Deanna is…

a lover of color, light, shadow, texture, dressing for an occasion, listening to stories about people’s lives, discussing love, and a well linked spreadsheet.

Deanna is a native of nowhere, born in New York City, but not allowed to claim it as her hometown because she didn't go to high school there. She never goes back to the town she went to high school in, and instead has made herself at home in the various locales of Los Angeles, Boston, Glasgow, and of course, in New York, where despite leaving multiple times, she always comes back.

As a native of nowhere, Deanna is keenly observant of how people are the same and different everywhere she goes. That comes across in many ways but particularly in the form of dress. That first impression off a plane, train or automobile is like a spotlight on the culture, beliefs, socioeconomics, history and comfort of the city as a whole and the myriad groups that make it such. While most people don't claim to think much about what they wear, for better or for worse, it is a tool of communication. As as storyteller, Deanna finds that clothes can quickly do what paragraphs can only try. Designing costumes appeals to a sense of making the ordinary beautiful and finding language visually. With a firm belief that art's power is in engaging empathy and community, Deanna is a strong believer in the power of film, a medium that is often the most easily accessible.
